I am looking to regain access to my email account via Apple

I am looking to regain access to my email account via Apple. The setting was with Verizon initially, now is handled by AOL that took over when Verizon closed their email database. For some ad reason the password I cannot get, so my emails will come in via Apple and download to my computer. To see emails, I have to go to AOL and get my emails. I do prefer the was it was. With AOL I have to read or see way too many ads that I do not care for at all. I tried to put the password I have to access AOL online and it does not work, I entered the password for APple, and nothing. Suggestions are welcome
