what about cloning the ssd from an external hub to save the Data

Backing up your internal SSD to an external hdd is a very good idea.

You can use Time Machine app that is built into the macOS for that.

Backup your Mac with Time Amchine - Apple Support

Or you can use an app like Shirt-Pocket's Super Duper! or CarbonCopyCloner from Bombich.
