iPhone XS Max top speaker randomly stopped working

iPhone XS Max top speaker with microphone randomly stopped working. If you turn the phone off and wait a few hours or full days then turn it back on it works for a short period of time. But eventually stops working again. When it stops working, you can’t change volume and the slide is stuck to having full volume but no sound.
