A strange listing -- HP-Print-3E-ENVY 4500 series -- keeps popping up in my wifi and disconnects the computer from the internet. Where did this come from and how do I get rid of it?? Baffling.

A) do you own an HP printer?

B) do you have neighbors that may own an HP printer?

If it is yours, then turn it off.

If it is your neighbors, then short of being a bad neighbor, there is nothing you can do to make it go away.

BUT, you can change your WiFi settings so you do not try to join the HP printer WiFi network

System Preferences -> Network -> Select WiFi in the Left Column

Enable

[X] Ask to join Personal Hotspots

[X] Ask to join new networks

Click on "Advanced"

Select "WiFi" tab

Under "Preferred Networks"

find your home WiFi network in the list.

  • Click and Drag it to the top of the list.
  • Click and Dray other networks into an order of most likely to be re-visited, as macOS uses this list in the order you specify to check for existing networks to join, so the closer to the top of the list, the faster macOS will find and join that network.
  • Any network that you will not be using again, click on the [-] to remove it from the "Preferred Networks" list.

That should change things so that your home network will be looked for first, and if found, joined and others will be ignored. It will also keep macOS from automatically joining a network if it cannot find a "Preferred Network".

That printer model is AirPrint compatible so if you don't now an HP-Print-3E-ENVY 4500 series printer someone nearby does and you''re picking it up on your WiFi as BobHarris suggested.

What security do you have set for your router? It should be WPA2 Personal.

If you don't have a strong password set for logging on to your WiFi network you should create one ASAP.
