I bought the iPhone about 3 weeks ago and it says coverage expired, why?

I recently bought an iPhone for my wife we opted to get apple care at a later time. its been about 3 weeks and it says coverage expired and we are unable to get apple care but we are still within the 60 day period, so we should be eligible for apple care.

Where did you buy it from?

Warranty starts the moment the device is purchased from Apple or an authorized Apple reseller.

If you bought it from Ebay or a non authorized reseller, the warranty would have started when they bought it from Apple.

If you enter the serial number at https://checkcoverage.apple.com what does it say?
