I’m trying to updated it to the lastest version but no updates are available. I’m trying to see is it because it’s old or..?

MacBook Pro Maximum for the "Mid-2009" 10.11.6 "El Capitan"

verify you are using the Safari browser to download/initiate the macOS links.

Do you mean a later version of the OS? How recent you can upgrade to is determined largely by age. What year is your Mac; please supply other details as well under "About This Mac" accessed by clicking the Apple icon at screen upper left.

If you want a later version of your MacBook itself, you'll need to buy it.
