I need to delete my bootcamp windows partition but can't. When I open Bootcamp Asst it does not give me the screen to select deletion of the partition.
worst case you could clone your mac drive with Super Duper or something similar onto an external drive, erase everything (thereby erasing the bootcamp and any other partitions) and clone everything back (or fresh install mac os and migrate your data back). this would be like starting fresh, especially if you zero out the drive data. i'm always suspicious of what's left over from a bootcamp de-partition anyway.
as already posted the best way to remove your Windows partition is to use the BootCamp Assistant again which should give you the option to remove the made Windows partition and revert back to one OSX volume.
After that's done a reboot of your Mac might be advisable.
Only if that's not working (whatever the reason) :
1) boot your Mac from your OSX 10.6 install DVD
2) choose your language and then 'ignore' (cancel) the installation
3) from the Top Menu (Utilities) start Disk Utility (DU)
4) in DU click on your harddisk (not any partition) in the left pane (the first item listed)
5) in the right pane use the 'Partition'-Tab
6) click to highlight on the ex-Windows partition you want to delete
7) click on the small '-' Button at the bottom
That should delete your former Windows partition
After that's done successfully
8) Drag the partition separator line until it encompasses the entire drive and then select apply.
9) Quit Disk Utility
10) reboot your Mac from your harddisk.
Since you are 'fumbling' with your OSX partition you should consider having/making a backup of it before trying the a.m. procedure. Just in case.
good advice (better than mine), disk utility is much easier. forgot that in leopard/snow leopard that you can add or remove a partition. used to be in tiger you had to format the drive and start over to make any changes, if i remember correctly.
hye...i've deleted my windows partition on bootcamp..and i tried to do another partition for windows..it stated "Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again"
how to i remove this and install new partition for windows?
Go into your Applications, and go to Utilities.
Then go to Disk Utility instead of Bootcamp Assistant.
Then click on the HDD (not one of the partitions i.e. 320 GB Hitachi...)
From the list First Aid, Erase, Partition, RAID, Restore
Select Partition, then select the Bootcamp partition
Click the minus button and delete the partition
Resize your Mac OS X partition to fill the space. Apply and exit
I'm having the same problem - unable to delete my boot camp partition. I am trying to use disk utility from the install disk, (Mac Mini, Snow Leopard) but it's not there.
I select my language, click next and get offered the opportunity to choose an option from the utilities menu but there isn't one. My only option is to click continue and then I have to agree to the licence after which I'm only given installation options.
Wow, that worked and it was so easy. Except for the part you said to "resize" your Mac OS X partition, LOL, I wish you would have said go to the lower right hand corner, and drag it to the bottom, but outside of that, super effective, mad props to you!
