GPS on Apple Watch works if I walk on a boat?

Ok maybe stupid question. I am going on a cruise, and I plan on walking the track on the deck.

is the GPS smart enough if you will to track just my distance walked or will the movement of the boat at X knots screw it up?

Just curious.

I found out by accident the watch records the movement of the boat even if you're standing still.
