from what year is mij iMac and which iOS do I need?

My iMac (sierra) and iPhone (IOS 14.7.1) don't sync anymore. The mac refuses to further update the OS. What to do?

You always find your sub-model with year by doing "About this Mac..." from your Apple menu:

Post what you find along with what macOS (NOT (iOS) version yo u wish to install. Only then can we offere you a possible upgrade path.
