Can I install Windows 11 on my iMac 2017 with a Bootcamp partition?

I have an iMac 2017 with a Bootcamp partition on which Windows 10 is installed. I’m now told I cannot upgrade to Windows 11. Do I have to sell the iMac and buy a windows computer?

One more method is to disable the TPM and Secure Boot checks right before you install Windows 11, from its preinstallation environment.

As you may already know, modern Windows version load a minimal OS version, earlier known as "MiniOS", now know as Windows Preinstallation Environment. It loads the required set of drivers and starts the main Windows setup program.

You can modify its registry, so it won't perform TPM and SB checks. Here is how.

  1. Download and place this REG file on the hard drive. or you can place it in another USB stick different from which you will use to install windows.
  2. Start your bootcamp assistant. You will have to download window. iso in order to prepare your usb installation stick. do it. do partition disk and start the installation process and set the language and country preferences.
  3. On the next page, select Install now.
  4. On the product key page, press Shift + F10 to open a command prompt window.
  5. Type notepad and hit Enter.
  6. Select File > Open and specify "*.* all files" for the file type option.
  7. Browse for the REG file you downloaded (tpmbypass.reg), right-click it and select Merge. to right click you must use a mouse, not the trackpad, unless you can right click with it
  8. Voila, Windows 11 will be installed.

The contents of the REG file if you are curious.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\LabConfig]
"BypassTPMCheck"=dword:00000001
"BypassSecureBootCheck"=dword:00000001

"Official" upgrade method to Windows 11

Just wanted to share my way of upgrading my 2019 mbp 16" to Windows 11 using only the original .iso from microsoft. No need for other programs that install you know what with your Windows 11 installer.

  • Download the .iso from microsoft website on you Windows 10 Bootcamp partition.
  • Extract the iso using a extractor like WinRar.
  • Go to extracted folder > Sources
  • Delete appraiserres.dll
  • Go back to parent folder
  • Run Setup.exe
  • Choose the option where the installer doesnt search for updates. Its the not recommended option by Microsoft.
  • accept the terms by Microsoft for installing Windows 11 to unsupported hardware.
  • Wait for it to install
  • Enjoy Windows 11
  • if your install hangs on 29%, power off you machine, windows 11 installer will rollback to windows 10
  • delete you amd drivers using DDU.

Repeat steps from "Run setup.exe"

I reinstalled latest amd drivers from bootcampdrivers.com which are compatible with Windows 11.

Update on drivers: I would recommend the stock amd drivers from windows 10 for stability.

Have fun!

Update: Over the air updates work like a charm installed Update KB5006674 without any issues natively on my Macbook using Windows Update. "

Hope this helps
