Want to trade-in an iPhone 8 for the 13 Pro. My wife will get the 13 Pro, I will get her iPhone XS, and we will trade-in my iPhone 8. Do we need to transfer the 8 data to the XS before we go to our Apple Store? Also trading in an iPad. Same question - transfer to her MacBook Air before we trade-in the iPad?

They have not offered this type of service for over a year due to the pandemic.

I would highly recommend transferring your data before you trade in your device. It will ensure that you have everything you need before you erase a device. It is not required, but if a backup doesn’t work or something wasn’t backed up, then it would be gone.
Thank you, Caedmon65. I highly agree, but the directions that I found on Apple Support only discuss transferring to a new phone or iPad. How do I do that before I go to the Store? If I take all the devices with me will Apple do this for me when I purchase the 13 Pro?
They should do it for you if you go to the Apple Store. Ask them when you get there and I am sure they will transfer everything for you.
