When I turn on the old MacBook Pro, I hear the hard drive only.
It only works while connected to the power cable.
I took the battery out and when I turned the laptop on I heard the "turn on" sound with the chimney but not ever since.
I can hear a sound once I connect it to a new MacBook Pro with a mini DP to DVI cable.
When I press the start button to turn on the Old MacBook I can hear the "starting" sound and then nothing happens. I can hear the hard drive in the background but is not connecting, I thought that it will mirror the screen but nothing.
Can someone be able to tell me if there is anything I can do to connect and extract the data from my old 2008 MacBook Pro?
Thank you so much 🤗🙏🏼
Some computers require a battery in place to boot up...
It sounds like the drive has failed. You can pull it out and stick it in an external enclosure and see if you can mount it when connected to your new Mac— or to set up the new Mac using at your backup/old mac data/user account etc.

It is advised to wait for a catastrophic failure to get the 'backup religion' . Computers.drives can fail at anytime.
3-2-1 Backup Strategy: three copies of your data, two different methods, and one offsite.

The most trouble free way to move to a new machine, is using the Setup Assistant on the initial boot of a brand new machine— you have one shot here. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205749
If that opportunity has past, the second best way is use the Migration Assistant.
