Can I use my 2015 MacBook Pro 13’ with thunderbolt 2 to connect an older iMac as a monitor?

I want to use older iMac as a secondary display for my 2015 MacBook Pro 13’

i want to know if this is possible?

and can I use other iMac models than said in the target display article?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.6

No, not in Target Display Mode (TDM). Target Display Mode was very limited by both iMac models and OS versions installed on the two computers. It is not as good as using a regular external monitor. TDM:


  • uses more energy
  • may require expensive cabling
  • can only mirror the other computer's display.


You may be able to use network screen sharing but it is slower than either TDM or a proper external monitor. Info here:
