Why do I get a privacy error stating "NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID" when trying to open a website?

It may be an expired certificate if you are using an older browser or system version, particularly Safari. Some browsers have built-in certificates and as long as you are running a relatively new version the certificate will work. Safar relies upon the certificates provided by Apple which will not be updated if you have an old macOS which is no longer being updated. In that case you either need to change browser, upgrade macOS, or see if you can update the certificate itself.


One certificate recently expired so if it is this one you are having problems with you can see if this information helps:
