mac book pro with Big sur - battery adaptor doesn't always work

Here is the problem. When you plug in the adaptor sometimes it does not work to power up the macbook. This happened from the start when I first bought the computer a few months ago when it was brand new. From time to time this still happens, in an outlet that works for other devices. I think there is a defect either in these new adaptors or the mac book. Sometimes the cable needs to be toggled to produce a charge. I don't think one should have to do that to get it to work.

I queried this problem with on line support and was told to they had not received many complaints on this, but I am wondering if anyone else has been having this problem? Please advise.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.12
