I have an ipad air 2 which won’t connect to iphone xs via bluetooth and cannot use air drop. Both my iphone and ipad can connect to my macbook pro.
When trying to connect iphone to the ipad, it says pairing unsuccessful, ipad 5th generation is not supported.
How to pair both devices?

Make sure your iPad is set up to accept AirDrop with these steps:
Use AirDrop on iPad to send items to nearby devices
If you're still seeing this error let us know which iPadOS version are you using. Tap Settings > General > About to find the version number.

That does not resolve the issue. Both the bluetooth on ipad and iphone are working fine when they are connected to my macbook pro. But when ipad air 2 connects with iphone xs, it says not ipad 5th generation not supported.
It’s ipad air 2 A1566. Still not working, . It’s not about airdrop is visible to all or contacts only. It's visible in the list of Bluetooth devices but when paired, it says ipad 5th generation not supported.
