Thank you for that complement.
Some Thoughts:
I. Reporting Issues to Apple:
Do your part: Let Apple know what is going on here. Provide them with feedback on this. They may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they received on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed in updates to come.
II. Determining if an Update will Install:
How to do so...
A. Verify Compatibility:
Confirm the model of your iPhone. If iPhone model is incompatible with iOS15, then it is because you iPhone does not meet the hardware requirements for this iOS version(s).
B. If Compatible...
1. Back Up First:
IMPORTANT: If you have an option to update, however, then be certain you backup your iPhone first. That way, you will have something to restore your iPhone from should anything go wrong with the update
then...
2. Proceed with the Update:
Go Here: Update your iPhone Using a Computer - User Tip
C. Avoid Refurbished Equipment:
There are plans reports of scams on these forums regarding refurbished equipment. And it usually has to do with the seller never logging out of iCloud on it, or the device just locked up. So, alway make certain that the seller signs out of iCloud on it, and lets you log in to on your own account, prior to handing ver the money. If the seller decides to disabide by these rules you've set forth, then do not proceed with the transaction.

Hi Alex
im using an iPad Pro and my facial recognition also suddenly stopped working at version 14.8 I spoke to several helpful support staff who had me try a reset to factory settings but do far nothing has helped. It seems to be a software issue that has not yet been solved in the 15.0.1 version. Check your phone while taking photos in portrait mode. Mine stopped doing that as the same time - apparently numerous users have reported a similar problem, so they may be connected.
I’ve heard from support that this issue is being flagged for the engineering department/ software gurus to take a look at.
If you have Apple care+ they may suggest you bring your phone or iPad in to an Apple store but I’ve also been told that sometimes the store can fix the problem sometimes not.
One thing possible avenue suggested to me was to wait and see if the next software update solves the issue.
Please let me know if apple Support managed to resolve your facial recognition glitch. I will continue to follow this issue on the discussion boards.
Hi TheLittles
looks like you are very experienced with apple products (level 9) so wondering if you’ve got any other suggestions?
if FaceTime works, camera in front works in regular photo mode, but not in portrait mode, support ran diagnostics twice and found no faults, and I’ve tried the quick reboot technique plus later a factory reset from my MacBook according to support suggestions (everyone on chat and Telephone support has been very helpful) but nothing has worked so far, would you wait to see if a further upgrade to version 15.0.1 will solve the problem?
Or does anything else come to mind to fix sudden failure of facial recognition?
The last support person I spoke to indicated it definitely looks like a software issue.
I’m following discussion threads on this issue for my iPad Pro. Love my iPad (want to keep this one and not receive a refurbished replacement as I take very good care of my equipment). Also I don’t really want to drive 3 hours for a “face to face” store visit during Covid pandemic (I’m in an older demographic so more vulnerable) when support told me they may or may not solve the issue. Again - running diagnostics did not reveal any faults.
I was having the same issue still am. i got the new iphone 13 pro max and my face id only worked for three days before it stopped. I’ve came to the conclusion that it in fact has to be a bug due to the new ios update. I’m waiting for apple to fix it 😰 really kinda inconvenient
Yes, my iPhone has FIngerprint ID so no problem on that device BUT my iPad Pro has developed this issue just recently. Im really hoping the engineering/software teams at apple are working on this issue and we will get a fix for this software bug soon. Ive gotten so used to the convenience of logging in with face recognition its been a bit of a shock suddenly losing it. Please let me know if and how this issue has been resolved for your new device.
Unfortunately I’ve just been told my Apple care plan for the 2019 iPad Pro expired in March 2021 and i didn’t realize it could be renewed. So living in a remote area with a 3 hour drive to an Apple Store, im still waiting for a software fix. I must add that several Apple support representatives via telephone calls and chat window have been very supportive in trying to figure this out.
I am glad that Apple seems to have a great customer service team! I'll let you know as soon as possible if they do fix it or if other users are talking about it on social media so apple can gain more awareness about it, I've been trying to see if others have had this issue as well and you're all I could find on the internet. I understand it's a hassle being far from an apple store the closest one to me is a 4-hour drive as well. Hopefully, they notice the bug and fix the issue, losing my face id recognition has shown me to appreciate the little things while they last lol. I also think it's a bug cause there's no way it just stopped working I've only had this phone for a week lol. But, apple always has big bugs whenever there's a new ios device or big ios update. Thank you for replying as well!
