Mac Book Pro 2012 won't reset back to factory.

How do I set my old MacBook Pro back to factor settings? I tried the option/command/p/r tactic, but it keeps repeating the gong, and restarting. When I let go of the buttons, it stops and goes back to the start page, waiting for me to sign in.

Is it normal to have so many access denied errors due to sandbox for apple system processes? I just did a clean install Ventur and am getting a lot of access denied errors reported for system processes. The clean install involved reformatting the entire internal SSD by choosing the device, not the volumes and then installing from a bootable USB, although I didn't actually boot from the USB, I just did it while I was in Recovery after reformatting the disk - but used the USB files (which I had just created using the create bootable installer tool in the Ventura 13.1 app itself). Is this normal? The error rate is really fast, and at times the fault rate for various system processes is, as well. I'm concerned that either the Mac itself is a lemon, or Ventura is. I should point out that this is a MacBook Pro 14" 18,4 - the 10 cpu/24 gpu M1, with 64 gb memory and a 2 TB drive. I have had various problems - it's now been 48 hours since the install and the battery isn't using optimal charging yet, as it should be by now. I think it is turned on - at least system settings says it is, but cfprefsd is one of the process getting sandbox errors when trying to read my preferences and at least in the case of Allow Remote Access, I had to toggle the switch a couple of times before sshd actually ran. Changing the computer name also seemed to take a while to display correctly, I had to keep changing it back to my desired name because it would revert to the default name. I'm not sure if the Systems Setting is displaying the actual state of various options because of that. This is a MacBook Pro 18,4, with the 10 cpu/24 gpu M1, 64 gb memory and a 2 TB drive.

MacBook Pro A1278 will only boot in safe mode, UNLESS I hold down the “command” button while it’s booting up Ok, I’ve been driving myself crazy trying to figure out what is going on with this thing and so I’m just going to post this and cross my fingers. Stats: MacBook Pro 13” Mid 2012 2.5GHz i5 8GB DDR3 Ram Catalina OS 10.15.7 Issue: The issue started when I went to log in to the MBP and my password has capital letters and it wasn’t accepting it. So I went through the process of changing the log-in password and even after changing it, it wouldn’t work. I ended up being able to reset everything and do a clean install of Catalina OS from my M1 Mac Mini and got everything working with a fresh install. I did not restore from any kind of backup and started completely new. I’ve looked up all the different key combinations for starting up an Intel-Based Mac and none of them work, the MBP will only boot into safe mode. Even if I do nothing and just let it boot on its own, it boots into safe mode. I can log in to the MBP but ONLY if I’m holding down the “command” key while it is booting up. Once I am logged in, everything works fine EXCEPT for the left “shift” key. It will not register when I try to type with it and it doesn’t register when I have the digital keyboard on screen showing which keys I’m hitting. *Note* It never occurred to me that the issue could’ve been the left “shift” button all along because I primarily use the right “shift” button.

What exactly do you want to do? Reinstall the OS? Wipe the drive and do a clean OS reinstall? The combination of keys you used resets certain parameters that are basically invisible to you. "Resetting" that way may clear up certain problems, but again, exactly what is the problem needing a "factory reset"?

Thanks for responding. I’ve figured out that I needed to use just command and p, not all four keys that I mentioned. From there I was able to purge the hard drives, but leaving the base os in place.
