As Ian says, possibly you accidentally slowed down the video to half speed. That would make it 2x longer duration. Are you seeing new footage, or duplicated footage, or is it the same footage with longer duration?
There might be a corrupt iMovie preference causing this, or perhaps corruption confined to this one project. Try these two procedures and see if they cure the issue:
Deleting Preferences.
Open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.
Copy your timeline footage into a newly created project.
Try copying your edited timeline footage into a newly created project. To do that, go to Edit/Select All, Edit/Copy, and then Edit/Paste the clips into a newly created project. Your footage will carry over. Then see if you can export with the original duration.

I have no idea unless you can give more details of exactly what you did.
If there is more video it should show up in the exported version.
Have you accidentally slowed it down to half speed?
