Target mode doesn’t work?

hi everybody,

My old Macbook Air mid2011 with os x lion won’t start anymore after upgrade attempt (too long to explain). And I’m trying to connect it with MacBook Retina 12’ 2019 via Tbolt+tbolt/usbC adapter as an external drive, using Target mode. Power cable connected of course. I can see Thunderbolt icon on macbook air’s screen, but the other computer doesnt see it, nothing on a desktop or in disk utility. What am I doing wrong?

There is also hdma adapter on the photo, but dont mind it, I dont use it.

MacBook, macOS 10.15

That adapter scheme will not work since the 2019 MacBook only supports USB with its USB-C port and is not a Thunderbolt port.

Thunderbolt2 is not compatible with USB, regardless of what adapter is used.
