What does "notifications silenced" mean in Messages?

I’ve been texting with a good friend of mine and all of a sudden at the very bottom of our texting thread it says “🌙 Molly has notifications silenced “. What does this mean? Is she specifically silencing my specific text messages so she doesn’t receive them or the banner doesn’t pop up? She has an iPhone as well and I’ve never seen this message before. My feelings are a bit hurt but I’m not really sure what it means, if someone could explain this to me I would so appreciate it.

I’m having the same issue. I’ve made sure I have no focus mode on, no sleep mode, no dnd but people keep telling me it says I have “notifications silenced” in iMessage. Tried restarting but nothing seems to fix it.

My wife constantly says her phone says my phone has notifications silenced, and when we test it, the notifications come through loud and clear. I don’t have Do Not Disturb on, my mute toggle is off, my Focus settings are all off. I don’t understand and it’s really frustrating us because there doesn’t seem to be a way to stop my phone telling my wife (and who knows who else) that I’m not taking their messages.

Same exact issue as everyone else in here.

I changed every Focus setting within Sleep and Do Not Disturb to “Focus Status: Disabled”. Restart. Still says ‘notifications silenced’ in iMessage.

Toggled off “Share across devices”. Restart. Still says ‘notifications silenced’ in iMessage

Within DND and Sleep settings, added ‘Allow Notifications’ for Messages App. Restart. Still says ‘notifications silenced’ in iMessage

literally nothing works to remove my contacts thinking I am forever on Notifications Silenced. So annoying. My job has people contacting me frequently and it’s making people think I’m avoiding them or not getting their messages in a timely manner. Apple, please fix this.

I’ve tried everything under the sun. Toggle on and off. Off then on then off again. All devices. Same for under messages - focus. Restarted all devices. Deleted text messages and started new. For some of us it doesn’t matter what we do, it still says it. I hope apple figured out a fix. I’ve deleted all the other focuses it added and while I can’t delete dnd, I can’t turn things any more off/on/off than I have for every combination and device I can think of. I’m just tired of answering texts from people “why are you silencing my messages?” And then I explain the issue just for them days later to ask why it’s still doing it. Please. Someone fix this. 😂😡😵‍💫

I have the same issue with my wife's phone recently. When I text her, I get the same message you listed. We have been through every setting in her phone and mine and see no differences in settings between our two phones and others that text her without getting the message. She does seem to be getting the notifications of my texts right away though.

Hey, guys! I found a fix for me.

I can’t remember exactly what happened because I tried a lot of things, but my best approximation of the fix is this:

Go to Settings, Focus, the under the Options section, tap on Focus Status. In that page, there’s a toggle: Share Focus Status. Turn it off and on a few times AFTER you’ve set who you want to be allowed to bypass the focus notification block. THEN go turn all your focuses on and off again and then set them to be on or off, whichever you’d like.

For me it turned out that all my settings were correct, but turning focuses on and off seems to “reset and verify changes. Since I was having this problem I hadn’t used focus on weeks and never reset it, so the problem continued until I finally did this.

Agreed. I have the same problem. My wife’s phone keeps telling me her notifications are silenced when THEY ARE NOT. This “Focus” thing has got to go App,e. The iPhone is becoming way too complicated I am relatively tech savvy and I am frustrated. My wife is not tech savvy. How the **** is she supposed to figure this out? The Focus feature is a bug, not a feature. FIX THIS ASAP!!

OK. Riddle me this. I have been getting the message that my wife has "notifications silenced" when we have gone to great pains to make sure she doesn't. We turned off EVERYTHING POSSIBLE associated with Apple's unfortunate Focus "feature". Nothing helped. So, on a whim, I signed out of iCloud on my iPhone and 12.9 iPad and, EUREKA, I didn't get that "has notifications silenced anymore". My smaller iPad Pro still gets them, but I didn't sign out of iCloud on it yet.

Could it be that the problem is on the receiving end? Will it come back? Time will tell. Please let me know if this works for you.
