Apple Maps sort by distance doesn't work

For instance, if I search for "coffee" or "cafe" and choose "Sort by Distance", it does not display the all the closest results and displays coffees shops much farther away, for no apparent reason. I verified that the coffee shops not displayed are indeed categorized as coffee shops by Apple Maps itself, so it should display them, but never do, no matter how much I zoom in. Zooming/panning also has no effect and displays the same, far away, results - there is no "search in this area" function (after zooming in/out or panning) like most other maps applications.

I was thinking of making Maps my go-to maps app because I like the UI much better than others, but because of the inability to give me accurate/correct results for such an obvious and important map feature, I don't think I can.
