iphone 6 screen shows battery with a red line. I have been plugged in to charge with multiple chords that work on other phones but no change. I've tried to restart(power and home buttons same time) but still get same picture. Battery or motherboard problem?

Could be either. The charging chip is another, or cable or charger brick.
I wouldn't waste money on the 6 which is obsolete for most modern apps but take it to an Apple Store to find out.
