Question

safari immedeately crashes upn start

Since this week safari refuses to start but crashes immediately. I have re-installed big sur but to no avail. Emptied cache etc etc. I have added the etrecheck report.

Hope someone has a solution....

Ok, the next logical step and the one I would take is boot in safe mode.

This will make sure that your computer doesn't load anything other than the needed stuff on it so that we can isolate the issue.

Oh ok it happens on a specific user.

Try removing the safari application state for that particular user.

rm /Users/<username>/Library/Containers/com.apple.Safari/Data/Library/Saved\ Application\ State/com.apple.Safari.savedState/windows.plist

Make sure to change <username> for your username

This makes me think it's an extensions issue-incompatibility.

From the report I can see dashlane.Can you try disabling it?

If you can't or doesn't work for any reason when you boot into the safe mode make sure you keep shift pressed prior to opening safari.

Apple's Crash Report on Safari

When logging into another user on the same machine, Safari works.

It's past midnight now so I'll go to sleep. Thanks so far, hope we can solve it.....

To everyone. In the end i installed ONYX for Big Sur, ran the cleaning tool, and presto it is working again. Again it proves that the support from apple, in case you don't pay is non existent.

Can you try holding the shift key when opening safari?

This will reset it.

I will do ttaht. In the meantime if i press OPEN AGAIN in the error display, terminal opoens with this message (many times the same message)

My grandson has this problem with Safari on his MacBook Air. Only one user has this quitting on start up issue. On the other, Safari is fine. I suspected the problem is something in the User/Library area but don't know exactly where to look.

I followed the link above and in Containers there is no com.apple.safari. This is what I see:

Each of these has a Data/Library path and each has a Saved Application State folder however each is empty. Am I missing something?

The Safe Mode did not help. Could start it but then crashes. Same behaviour as in normal mode. I Have now created a second user and will check if that works.

It does repeat opening the terminal and showing me this error code, but then 10 or 15 times the same, before the windows closes utsself.

Have you solved it in the meantime ? I haven't. I have sent numerous error reports to apple, but no answers.

So ihave killed safari altogether and I am now using Chrome.
