My Macbook Pro 2017, two Thunderbolt 3 ports is having issues reading any external hard drives. I'm now on my second new one and it will not read an SD card but the Power cord works.

The cable that shipped with your Mac power adapter is a Charge-ONLY cable.
Yes. But I'm not having any problems with the charger. I'm having problems with any adapter that plugs into the Thunderbolt ports reading an SD card. Its reads USB and HDMI but the SD card is a different story. I've tried 3 differ adaptures and always get the same result. Sometimes I have good luck with my older one and it will work but usually it doesn't.
