MacBook boots into recovery after restart /shutdown for no clear reason

Hi

In the past weeks I'm experiencing a weird issue where my corporate MacBook Pro M1 is booting into recovery mode after a restart / shutdown without a clear reason.

After the reboot it shows me this screen

(image from : https://www.alansiu.net/2020/03/25/what-can-you-do-at-the-password-prompt-in-catalinas-recovery-mode/)

On my personal Macbook it asks for a password instead of a FileVault key. But when I enter my recovery key, it doesn't go to the recovery menu but reboots and starts up like normal and I'm able to log back in ?????

It is a corporate Macbook where I'm a Standard User, FileVault enabled & joined a domain and running on macOS Big Sur 11.5.2.

I'm afraid that one day I'm not able to recover from this and lose all my data and configs from the company (although I have a Time Machine backup).

I tried to debug this issue to the best of my knowledge but without success.

  • Error Logs have no errors in console
  • No failed updates
  • Cleared NVRAM
  • Resetted SMC
  • First Aid on Disk does not show any faults/corruption

The only thing that I could find a pattern on is that it occurs more frequent when I installed an update or a program.

Does anyone know the solution to this problem or experienced something similar ?

Thanks in advance

Jens Vanhulst
