ipad switches to other IPS

In my garage I use my old IPad Air that is better at connecting then my newer IPad.

The downside is that I am closer to my neighbors signal than my in house router. There is no issue with me linking to the neighbor, I have permission. The issue is my iPad will drop out and switch to my house router which doesn’t have a strong enough signal at this distance, one bar. How can I force the iPad to stay connected to the neighbor router until I return to the house?

thanks in advance.

To have greater control over the WiFi network to which your iPad is connected, you will need to disable Auto-Join for each of your configured WiFi networks. Whilst Auto-Join is enabled, your iPad will automatically connect to the WiFi network with the strongest signal whenever the signal for the current connection degrades. Disabling this setting inhibits this behaviour.

Settings > WiFi > [WiFi Network Name / SSID] - tap the blue “i” icon, then deselect Auto-Join

Having deselected Auto-Join, your iPad will not automatically join networks that have this setting disabled; to rejoin the network, you must manually select the network from iPad Settings - or from the iPad Control Centre.
