My apple watch will not update... needs 1.7 GB storage. Looking at my watch app on my phone, it shows a lot of MB in Mail and Photos. How do I get those off my watch so I can have enough storage to update it?

Also, try unpairing and pairing your watch again and restoring from the backup just created in the unpairing process. This deletes all temp and corrupted files and re-indexes the file system. This should result in no loss of data and in some cases can free a lot of storage.
