"Apple Watch Series 7 has the most crack-resistant front crystal yet. Aluminum models have Ion‑X front glass. Stainless steel and titanium models have sapphire front crystals."

They used to list it on the Tech Specs page when you purchased the watch, during the event for the first generation they made a point of talking about Ion-X and its durability and the scratch resistance of the sapphire crystal. For longtime watch collectors there are other ways to tell the difference and any watch shop can also do so. The reason main reason I buy the SS models is for the Sapphire crystals.
I'm very OCD about all of my watches. I've worn my Apple Watch 4 every day since I got it when it first came out. There are NO visible scratches on it or the crystal. And I buy the Stainless for the sapphire too. Photo taken moments ago.
This forum is user to user only. No one from Apple is here. No one here can answer your question. And Apple has not specifically identified the composition of the screens. They have simply said it's more durable and less susceptible to cracks.
Where did you find that Stainless and above get Sapphire? When we bought our Series 4 watches, in the tiny print somewhere it was listed. We've ordered Series 7 in Stainless, but I can't find where it lists Sapphire anywhere?
The main reason we buy the Stainless is for the Sapphire Crystal. But this time around, Apple has not mentioned Ion-X, nor sapphire. Instead they have touted the new more durable crystals, which are harder to crack, but have not, at least that I can find, listed the composition of the crystals.
Thanks Deggie!!!
I viewed the Apple Watch 7 spec page few times and missed it.
Choosing scratch resistant materials is very important for me. All my watches have a sapphire crystal and scratch resistant cases, ceramic, zirconium or DLC coated titanium.
I hate when I get scratches on my watches.
Ion-X for the Aluminum models, Sapphire for the Stainless Steel, Titanium and Hermes. Hasn't changed since the first generation watch series.
We cross posted.
I'm glad you found that. I looked at that page multiple times and somehow missed it. I'm very happy to see the Stainless is still getting a Sapphire Crystal.
Thanks!
