Will my 5 watt Apple charger damage my 8th gen iPad or my iPhone 13?

I was told that old 5 watt chargers can damage new 20 watt devices such as the iPad 8 gen and the iPhone 13. Also , do 20 watt chargers damage or degrade batteries faster than 5 watt chargers?

Just use the power/charging adapter that came with your 8th gen iPad.

If it came with an 18W or 20W power/charging adapter, it is perfectly fine to use with your 8th grin iPad.

It will do NO harm to the battery.

A 5W power/charging adapter will charge that iPad, but will take a WHOLE LOT more time to fully charge that iPad.
