This upgrade killed my T-Mobile 5G! 😐

Does anybody else have issues with this upgrade and losing 5G on T-Mobile?

I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max and using iOS version 15.0.2 and the carrier is T-Mobile. I have not lost 5G. Actually, I have gained the UC designation in some areas where Ultra Capacity service is available from T-Mobile.

Double check your settings, just in case:

Open Settings ➔ Cellular ➔ Cellular Data Options ➔ Voice & Data: Set this on 5G Auto (5G On). If you have it set correctly and 5G is still not accessible, then:

  1. Shut Down and Restart your iPhone.
  2. If that does not work and you still expect to have 5G, then definitely contact T-Mobile

No. I have not come across this. But, most certainly report it to Apple Support...

Reporting this to Apple:

Do your part: Let Apple know what is going on here. Provide them with feedback on this. They may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they received on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed in updates to come.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPhone - Apple
  2. Comment: on when you came across this issue, and how you have troubleshot it this far.
  3. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  4. Proceed from there aw necessary

I've also been having issues with 5G on my 13 Pro Max, but it started just before the update.

If I am connected to 5G but then return home, where it switches to Wifi, when I then leave the home (or switch off Wifi) it only reconnects to 4G.

If I change the carrier from "Auto" and then from EE to O2, wait for the bars to extinguish and then switch back to EE, and then "Auto", it reconnects to 5G and stays like that until it connects to Wifi. Restoring network settings has the same effect.

There is no issue with the 5G coverage wherever I am

So something is going awry when it reconnects from to LTE after using Wifi?

So, I’m on EE in the UK, EE have been very good and we worked out that although my phone was displaying 4G, I was actually getting 5G speeds, I would see 4G and have speeds of 200-500mb..

But now here for me, the problem has been resolved, before it had been resolved the fix for me was to manual select a different network until I had no service, then select my home network and 5G would appear, also switching off wifi calling also stopped the problem from occurring too, now happily I can connect to wifi with wifi calling and my 5G is showing, happy days! Hope it gets sorted for you guys too!

Hi Adeuk, I’m glad I’m not the only one! You’ve done a little more investigation then me, I didn’t realise connecting to a wifi network stops the iPhone then connecting to a 5G network later, I don’t live in a 5G area but I work in one, that’s how I realised the issue, for me it had been working fine for the past 6 months, I can’t see it’s an EE problem as it happens with the sim from Three too, I wonder if doing the manual network search, selecting a different network until you see no service then manually selecting EE and leaving it on the manual selection rather then switching back to automatic makes a difference? I have been on the phone to apple regarding this, they want me to completely reset my iPhone and set it up as a brand new iPhone to see if that solves the issue, but TBH I’m reluctant to do that, it’s very time consuming!

I’m dealing with this as well. I am in US and my Verizon 5G stopped working following the update. Apple had no idea how to fix. I reset my network settings, have the updated carrier settings, replaced my 5G SIM card, and even got a replacement phone today since mine was under warranty. STILL does not work on 5G. I have unlimited data and today is the first day of my billing cycle so it’s not plan related. In fact, my iPhone 12 Pro Max works perfectly fine on LTE network, just not 5G. No one from Apple that I’ve talked to or Verizon has a clue what’s going on. I have set my cellular to be in LTE at all times to work around the issue but talk about frustrating. Why pay for a plan for 5G if an update by Apple messes it up?

I have an iPhone 12 Pro with an EE esim and smarty physical sim, I too can’t get 5G anymore, this happened about a week ago so I guess about the same time as I updated to 15.0.2..

I have tried everything, reset network settings, reset phone, toggle airplane mode, switched off/on phone! Made sure 5G is switched on in data settings!

when I rest the phone it deleted my ee esim so had another put in, I instantly had 5G, but the next day 5G wasn’t working again anymore!

Yes! We received 2 iPhone 13 yesterday. We set them up and they worked great. We then updated one iPhone to 15.02 and it never worked on 5G since. It works under Wi-Fi but not 5G. I took the iPhone into the Apple Store and they gave me a new one. The new one worked and then unbeknownst to us we once again updated after we setup the new iPhone 13. It stopped working on the new iPhone 13 after once agin updating to iOS 15.02. T-Mobile (2 hour tech call), T-Mobile store changed out multiple cards for the iPhone, The Apple Store gave us a new iPhone (number 2 in 24 hours), and now Apple tech support has scheduled another Apple Store visit to get another iPhone 13.. I strongly believe it is iOS 15.02 that is bricking the 5G at TMobile.

Also, we have other iPhone 13 and none have been updated to iOS 15.02 and they work perfectly using 5G.

Massive disconnect somewhere...
