Mail and iCloud download problem

This morning Mail stopped automatically downloading my iCloud emails. My iPod Touch and iPad work. Accessing Mail via Safari/iCloud works fine. I can send emails from my iMac.

I've tried quitting Mail and relaunching. Created a new iCloud account. Restarted my computer several times. Unhooking my ethernet and ran off of Wi-Fi. I've signed out and back into iCloud several times.

My problem is on a 2017 iMac running Mohave.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Verify the settings for account “iCloud” or try again. The server returned the error: Connections to the server “p59-imap.mail.me.com” on the default ports timed out. I have checked the settings which are all okay. My wife gets the same problem from her ipad with her icloud email. Other email addresses on my mac are working normally. Apple Mail Mail constantly hanging On my Mac. Won’t download emails I have from today that I can see on my iPad and iPhone. Have to force quit Mail on the Mac. constant note left base about moving messages that takes forever to clear. How do I get it to work efficiently?

iCloud Mail issues When I use mail on all my MacBooks it is constantly downloading messages and will never finish. This slows the machines down. I have had this logged with apple support for a couple of months and they say they have senior technicians working on it. What is interesting is that if I try an log into my iCloud on any device even non apple and click on mail, it doesnt open and eventually shows an error message, so I suspect iCloud is the cause of all my issues. Has anybody else had similar issues or does anybody have any solutions or ideas. Apple support really have been hopeless. I was hoping the latest software release of Montgomery the other day was for me to fix this issue, sadly its made no difference!

I should add that Mail indicates that iCloud is offline.
