If I restore my iPad2 to factory settings, how do I get my data back onto my iPad?

Did your iPad go into Restore mode prior to you posting your question?
Have you ever made any data backups of your iPad to Apple iCloud, some other online, offsite data storage/backup service OR to a full Mac or Windows PC, prior to your iPad going into restore mode?
Yes.
Once you have erased and reset your iPad, you can redownload all your purchased items from the all of the different online app stores from the purchased tab/panels of the iOS App Store and iTunes stores, then restore the data from these apps from your iTunes backup.

no it didnt go into restore mode. i just now made a backup in itunes. my concern is IF I restore to factory settings will i be able to get my purchases back on my ipad?
