Screen sensitivity settings on iPhone XR

Hi. I have an iPhone XR and the screen seems to be EXTREMELY sensitive. If there’sa smudge or some dust/dirt on the screen it’ll interfere with what I’m doing by causing the screen to change from one app to another or press keys on my keyboard, etc. The screen picks up on whatever smudge or dust particle as it does someone’s finger. I am CONSTANTLY having to wipe down my screen and blow off any little

pieces of dust that might by on my screen. It becomes really annoying and makes it hard to do almost anything on my phone.

I found directions on how to change the screen sensitivity level but as far as what I learned you have to turn on the 3D Touch and Haptic Touch features. On my XR there’s no 3D option and the halt if touch only allows you to change how long you touch a picture for before it’s enlarged. There’s nothing that has to do with the screens sensitivity level.

If there’s a way to change/customize the screen’s sensitivity level on an iPhone XR I’d really appreciate someone letting me know how it’s done! Thank you!

Hi there Frenchiemommy,

Being able to rely on your touchscreen to be accurate is important, and we'd like to help get it working right.

You also mentioned that there's some physical debris on your iPhone(dirt/dust), and that the issue goes away once the screen is cleaned. This is expected behavior.

What isn't expected is the smudge affecting the touchscreen. Let's focus on that by confirming some basics:

  1. You mentioned having an iPhone XR, but does it have iOS 15.0.2 installed? You can verify this within Settings > General > About. Here's a link that'll show how to first back up, then Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  2. Have you tried all of the steps in this link? Check out: If the screen isn’t working on your iPhone or iPad The steps listed would include contacting Apple Support.

Take care!
