You'll need an adapter if you want to connect the Mini-B end to the iMac. 2017 iMacs have USB 3 and Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) connectors.
USB 2.0 will fit into the USB 3 ports just fine.
A USB-C will need an adapter to work in a USB 3 port.
