Updated my iPone Xr to iOS 15.0.2 Now won't back-up to laptop

I just updated my iPhone Xr from iOS 15.0.1 to 15.0.2. Prior to updating I had backed-up my iPhone to my MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2.53GHz, Mid 2009) running Mac OS 10.11.6 and iTunes 12.8.2.3, the last supported OS for that model. After finishing the update to the iPhone, I wanted to back-up the iPhone to my MaBook Pro, again, and now it says I need a software update on my MackBook Pro to connect to the iPhone Xr. But since they stopped supporting this MacBook Pro a few years ago, is there a software update for it so that I can connect my iPhone to iTunes to back-up? Curiously, I still seem to be able to connect to Photos, as the iPhone Xr shows up there. In the Mac App Store there is no update listed available for iTunes of whatever that needs to be updated.

I went ahead and clicked the link provided in the window that said I needed an update so that my computer could connect to to my iPhone. I was afraid that by clicking the link it would download an update that wasn't compatible with an OS that wasn't supported anymore and it would jack-up my iTunes or my OS, kind of like when they updated from iPhotos to Photos or something even worse. But it appears to have worked.

Maybe now Safari will work properly too and won't say that every site I visit has a certificate that's out of date.
