No sound through soundbar

Hi. I am playing my Apple+ TV through my smart TV which has a sound bar connected. The sound bar works fine with the apps on the TV but when watching Apple +TV, no sound comes through the sound bar and I have to rely on the tv speakers…which aren’t great. Can anyone offer a possible solution as to why sound won’t come through the sound bar? Thanks.
