Hi,

The 2011 MacBook Pro can be upgrade up to High Sierra (10.13), which released in 2017. While it isn't the most up-to-date version of macOS, app/website compatibility should be much better.

A MacBook Pro from 2011 can upgrade only as far as macOS High Sierra 10.13.6.

Which will get you over the not being able to connect to website (although that is an easy fix).

Open Safari and click on this link,

Go to the Download OS section and click on macOS High Sierra.

This will redirect you to the App Store High Sierra download page

it should say Get or Download. This will download Install macOS High Sierra.app

to your Downloads folder. double-click on that to start th installation.

Before upgrading make a full back up of your Mac.

Check that third party apps you use have updates available for the new OS.

Check that your printers/ scanners etc have updated drivers and software available for the new OS.

Connect your mac to your router via cable rather than rely on WiFi.

Do not use your mac while it is downloading

and do not use any other devices that share the same internet connection.

If the App Store says ‘Open’ then it is detecting a previous download of the install app

go to the Applications folder locate Install macOS High Sierra.app.

Move it to the Trash, empty the Trash.

Restart, click on the link again, the App Store should say ‘Get' or 'Download'.

You cannot install macOS High Sierra using the macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 Combo Update.

As its name suggests it is an update for macOS High Sierra.

Installing a newer OS is called an upgrade.

The macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 Combo Update can only be installed if you are already running

an earlier version of macOS High Sierra.

In order to install macOS High Sierra you need to download the full installer app via the App store as

per the instructions contained in my first post.

Look at the screenshot below, note the size of the full installer.
