When connecting my iPhone 12, I received a mess that "A software update is required to connect to iPhone. Would you like to download and install this update now?"

My system in a Mac Pro (Mid 2010) running High Sierra Version 10.13.6 Yes, OS there are OS updates since 10.13.6 nonetheless, the question is this software update a the new OS version or just an update specifically to target the ability to recognize the iPhone 12?
