I'm running Windows 7 (64 it) and the latest version of iTunes (12.8) won't load with an error message that said I have to be running Windows 10. The FAQ/Help Section still says Windows 7 is OK, although who knows how long that's been there.
Unfortunately, Apple ended support for Windows 7 last year. The last version you could use can be downloaded by using the “Windows 8” download links at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210384. However, I have lately seen reports that devices running current iOS cannot be restored using that version (iTunes 12.10.11.2).
Thanks. Just like Apple to turn it's back on the needs of the customer in order to get chummy with Microsoft.
