What happened to my Safari

when I open Safari for a search my browser is switching to google. I don't have an option to change it back in preferences.

Safari When I search something in safari it automatically goes to google I do know that you can change your default browser in settings > safari > browser I am running iOS 16 and safari won’t show up as an option can anyone help me?

Have you looked under the Search menu in Safari's Preferences? There should be a window where you can select a search engine. If you once changed it before, you should be able to change it again.
