Reset and Erase Apple watch contents -

My apple watch 1 was paired to unlock using my iphone. However, I had to reset my iphone because of some issues. When I reset the watch I was unable to pair the watch again. I am also unable to unlock the watch. How do I unlock the watch or reset it? It currently gives a message "Device Locket. First put on Apple Watch, then unlock your phone". However, now the phone is no longer paired with my watch.
