I just bought and Apple Watch Series 7, its my first ever apple watch, so I'm slightly hesitant to wet it or put it into water. I just want to know if I can simply put the apple watch 7 into water or do I need to turn on the water lock mode or swim mode?

About Apple Watch water resistance - Apple Support

Your Apple Watch is water resistant, but not waterproof.* For example, you may wear and use your Apple Watch during exercise (exposure to sweat is OK), in the rain, and while washing your hands.

Water resistance isn't a permanent condition and may diminish over time. Apple Watch can't be rechecked or resealed for water resistance.

When you start a swimming workout, your Apple Watch automatically locks the screen with Water Lock to avoid accidental taps. Otherwise, turn on Water Lock when you wear your Apple Watch in water.

Water Lock DOES NOT change the Apple Watch physical water resistance. It just disables the touch screen and side buttons from accidental activation while swimming so that you do not "Butt Dial" someone, or trigger a 911 call, or cause your Apple Watch to do other silly things while you are swimming because of accidental touches from splashing water or wrist motions that might put pressure on side buttons.

Samar, I have the same question & reservations as you. So for now, I’ll will turn on the water lock before I get into the water/pool (or even before I take a pre-swim shower). When I’m ready to start my swim, I’ll unlock the watch, start the swim AND wait for the screen/water lock (water droplet) to appear. I guess I’ll be doing thia for all my swims until I find a better procedure or advice by Apple. Happy swimming.
