iPad Safari and Mail opening multiple windows, how to disable it?

On iPadOS 14, Safari started opening new windows, so that I often get lost, thinking my previously opened tabs are altogether gone. I thought at first it was an annoying bug but realised soon it is an intended feature – for what purpose, I don’t know. It is a feature that I abhor the most on Windows machines. On Mac you used to be able to trust that one app can only be open in one location. Now with new OS 15 I realised that the same can happen with Mail, too. I don’t want it! Is there a way for disabling this new stupid feature?

(I used to like the iPad due to its simpleness. There is no need to make it another laptop. Apple stop! Or at least give an option for disabling unwanted features.)

It is not possible to disable multitasking features of iPadOS15.

The iPad User Guide is a rich source of frequently overlooked information. Having updated to iPadOS15, review of this resource may be worthwhile in order to better understand the features of iPad and its software.

The Guide is available both online using a web browser (such as Safari), or as an Apple Books download:

Apple do invite constructive feedback and feature requests via their product feedback pages:

If you have particularly strong feelings about changes made within the new OS-release, or have suggestions for improvements, the feedback page is perhaps the most appropriate channel through which to express your views. Whilst you are unlikely to receive a reply, it is understood that all comments are logged and forwarded to the most appropriate team.
