This is helpful to know, but despite the potentially usefulness of the feature I hate it.do you know if it can be disabled?

This feature is so annoying! Why can’t it be disabled??? It’s giving me major anxiety.
lewisphoto ~ Although Apple administers these communities, that doesn't include reading each of thousands of daily posts for possible requests. However, Apple will "read all feedback carefully" here:

the new feature in iOS 15, when opening mail, safari, etc. , previous history. a sort of genie effect above the dock. when tapping on the screen it goes away.
not all progress is good.
thanks
Better still, let’s have the option to disable multitasking completely in iOS.
It is an iPad feature. I copied this from here.

10. Use the Shelf View
In iPadOS 15, supported apps now display a new Shelf View at the bottom of the screen upon launch. The Shelf displays all the open windows for the current app, including any multitasking instances of it, allowing you to switch easily between them.
The Shelf minimizes when you interact with an open window, but you can resurface it by long pressing the app's icon and selecting Show All Windows.
I run into this often when typing emails. If you save multiple drafts, you will see the shelf in the mail app.
I’ve never heard of or seen what you call “shelf” in any of the iPhones that I’ve had over almost 15 years. Can you post a screen shot? If multitasking is disabled then while you are on a call you couldn’t look up a phone number, check your calendar, check a text message, look at an email, look up something on the web, answer the phone while using the map. Is that really what you want?

Ah, which is why I didn’t get it in the iPhone forum. Did you have it moved?
FWIW, it doesn’t bother me on my iPad and I even use it occasionally. I didn’t know what it was called, though.
No, it cannot be disabled. You can let Apple know how you feel about via the feedback link.
What shelf are you talking about? If you mean the dock at the bottom of the screen, you can’t remove it.
please post a screenshot of the "shelf". Edit out personal information
What are you talking about? What does it have to do with the subject of this thread?
”Shelf” is a component of multitasking. Disabling multitasking will disable shelf.
I did not have the thread moved. It’s another feature that doesn’t bother me either. I can take it or leave it, but I do use it on occasion myself.
