Apple mail filter option

Apple has changed how you see filtered mail and I cannot figure out how it works. Sometimes I can see my flagged emails and sometimes I can't. Why can't I just see a separate list of everything that I have flagged?

Flagged E-mails Gone After Latest Upgrade All of the flagged emails--set-up as Rules in Preferences--are gone. The e-mails seem to still be located in the Inbox but they are no longer color-coded nor flagged. If I click on one that I know should be flagged, sometimes it gets color-coded but the Category does not appear under the Flagged tab in the sidebar.

Filtering emails In apple mail I can no longer filter emails in my inbox other than by 'unread'. I got a new mac for Christmas, but can't see how that would make any difference? There used to be a 'filter by' option and then I could choose 'flag' 'unread' 'date' etc ...... now, all I have is the filter symbol and the only option seems to be 'unread'. Any ideas ? Thanks. In Mail, right click on the header bar, make sure flags is checked, then you can sort on flagged if you wish.
