Navigation not working on iPad Pro 11 inch 2020 Model

Hello guys,

I am trying the navigation using built in maps app or other apps like Sygic, but the position is not updating in real time and thus the navigation is not working.

When I stop my car, the position gets updated.

I restarted the iPad multiple times, am not using a cover, which could limit the signal. I tried it without any cover at all.

Any idea?! Any one having the same issue?

Hello Dr Anmar,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. We're happy to help.

Is your iPad updated to the latest iPadOS 15.0.2? Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

How is your iPad connecting to the internet? Wi-Fi only models do not have a built-in GPS, see iPad Pro Tech Specs for details.

Quick question:

how can I get external GPS on iPad? If I connect the iPad to an iPhone over hotspot, is it going to get GPS Data from the iPhone?

I read in the internet, that there are some sort of GPS Hardwares that when connected to iPad a GPS signal can be obtained, like Elf Bad for Lightning Connector. However, there is no USB-C version until now.

There is on the other side bluetooth or wireless GPS Pro version from Elf Bad. Do they work on the iPad Pro?

WiFi Only models can only “infer” their location from a database lookup of neighbouring WiFi networks for which the geographic location is known, or the geographic location of your public IP address. For static applications in urban locations, where the location of IP public IP addresses and WiFi networks are known, an “inferred” location can be relatively accurate. However, in rural locations, or when using a Cellular/Satellite/VPN connection, location accuracy of an inferred location [if it works at all] may be very inaccurate.

Your iPhone does have GPS capabilities - however, the iPhone’s derived GPS location is not shared with other devices via the tether.

You can add an external GPS receiver to your WiFi Only iPad. These are often used in marine, aviation and vehicular applications - and can be either directly connected via Lightning or via Bluetooth. Their are various third-party manufacturers, of which one is BadElf.
