Why won’t my phone backup at night. I did buy more storage.

Depending on how you set up your new iPhone you might just need to turn iCloud Backups on again. How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iCloud - Apple Support
Also note that for your iPhone to backup the screen must be locked and be connected to Wi-Fi.
