iMac will not start. I hear it try but nothing shows up

What to try to get it to open

1 - try starting up in Safe Mode according to Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support . If successful try to reboot normally again.


If that fails continue with #2:


2 - Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and run First Aid on each of the volumes of your hard drive. Then try to reboot normally.


If still unsuccessful, repeat #2 except this time reinstall the system.
