New and old phone number in apple account and I can't remove old

I have an iphone 11 and apple watch 6. A few weeks ago I changed my phone number with my carrier, kept same phone. Problem is my old and new phone numbers are listed in my apple account as imessage and facetime number when I go to settings and press my name at top. When I click edit I cannot remove either and an Info button to the right of each appears. My new number is listed as phone number for messages and facetime when i go into each from settings.

I noticed there was a problem when people i share fitness app with send me a message through their watch and it tries to send message to my old number. i have totally unpaired watch and reset it. i have updated everything including my apple password. As an aside i get apple security texts to my new number, yet when i went online to contact apple help it listed my old phone number. I cannot figure where or how to remove the old phone number. Any help would be appreciated.
